Origin of the Labradoodle
This is a little interesting history of the origin of this breed. A man named Wally Conron, who was also in charge of breeding for Guide Dog Services, had a customer come in, this woman was visually handicapped and her husband was very allergic to dogs. She asked if he could fill her request for a dog. Conron took on the challenge, and after multiple attempts TADA!! crossing a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle finally succeeded in producing a dog with an allergy friendly coat. This was the beginning of the Labradoodle.
Difference between the Australian Labradoodle and Labradoodle
The difference between the labradoodle and the Australian Labradoodle is the breed of dog crossed. Labradoodles only use Labrador Retriever and Poodle. After Conron successfully produced the Labradoodle, people started trying out other breeds and crossing these breeds:
English Cocker Spaniel
American Cocker Spaniel
Curly Coat Retriever
Irish Water Spaniel
Breeders started crossing these other breeds, trying to produce desired traits from each specific breed. These dogs are extremely smart and very easy to train. They have excellent temperament. Because of the non shedding coat and how allergy friendly these dogs are. they quickly became popular. Even though this dog was developed in Australia, American breeders took on the responsibility to continue the development of this amazing breed.
In order to be considered a true Australian Labradoodle. dog's pedigree must contain combination of Labrador, Poodle and Either an english or american cocker spaniel. It also helps if the pedigree can be traced all the way back to Australia.
